Triple Your Fat Loss by Cycling Your Calories During the Week

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
Dr. Becky Gillaspy asked:

You can triple your fat loss by varying the number of calories you feed your body during the week. The reason this works is because it keeps you one step ahead of your body so you do not adapt to your diet and slow your metabolism. If you have been frustrated with slow or no weight loss from traditional dieting methods then it is important to learn how to shift between high and low calorie days to get better fat loss results.

Triple Your Fat Loss

You will want to begin your diet with a high calorie day. This might sound absurd if you are stuck in the old mindset that says the only way to lose weight is to cut your calories but when you understand what a high calorie day does for your body and its ability to lose weight it will all make sense.

When you overeat you raise the level of an important hormone in your body called leptin. This hormone is responsible for shutting down your metabolism if you are on a diet for too long. You see your body does not understand “dieting”. It cannot understand that you are eating less in order to lose weight, all your body understands is starving and this is not what it wants. So if you diet (which is really just a lesser form of starving) then your body reads this as a threat to its survival and slams the brakes on your metabolism.

By starting your diet with a “Cheat Day” you raise the leptin level in your body and your metabolism burns fat very efficiently. This leads us to Day 2 when you want to drastically reduce your calorie intake. This lets you take advantage of the fast metabolism you created on Day 1. By creating a large calorie deficit this day you maximize your fat burning.

The remainder of the week should be low calorie to get the most weight lost but then by the end of the week you will need to boost your leptin and metabolism with another Cheat Day. This is the cycle you follow until the weight is off and the result will be very fast fat loss and a metabolism that is still running efficiently which is something that you cannot say with traditional diets.

I encourage you to experiment with this method in your own life and prove to yourself that you can triple your fat loss using a combination of high and low calorie days.

8 Top Tips to Help you Lose Weight

Monday, October 5th, 2009
lose weight
Tom Parker asked:

All over the world people are looking to lose weight. If you are reading this article then I’m guessing you are one of those people. You may just want to drop a couple of pounds or you may want to completely transform your overall appearance. Maybe you even want to lose some weight for the associated health benefits. Whatever the reason behind your weight loss drive I’m here to help. The following article contains 8 top tips to help you lose weight.

1) RESTRICT YOUR CALORIES:- You may not want to hear this but the bottom line is that you need to consume less calories if you want to lose weight. There are a number of ways you can go about this. The first method is to write down everything that you eat in a normal week and work out the average number of calories you are consuming each day. Then adjust your eating habits so that you are eating less calories each day than your current average. Another method is to write down your target weight in pounds and then multiply this by 12 if you are female and 14 if you are male. This will give you the approximate number of calories you will need to consume to reach and maintain your target weight. A third solution is to use a Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) calculator (that can be found for free on the Internet) which will tell you the number of calories you should be consuming.

2) EAT THE RIGHT FOODS:- Apart from restricting your calories, eating the right foods is an important factor when trying to lose weight. You need to be consuming lots of healthy, nutritous, low calorie foods such as fruit, vegetables and whole grain carbohydrates. Eating smaller portions more regularly throughout the day can also help you lose weight.

3) DRINK MORE WATER:- Drinking water has a number of benefits which can help you lose weight indirectly. First, being properly hydrated keeps your body functioning at its optimal level meaning you can burn fat more efficiently. Second, it reduces water retention and the additional weight that this may bring. Finally, it makes you feel fuller so that you are less likely to eat too much.

4) EXERCISE:- A good diet is half of the challenge when losing weight but you also need to exercise. Start with trying to do 15 minutes a day of walking, cycling, sports or whatever else you fancy. As long as you keep moving each day you will be burning additional calories and losing weight. Remember, the more exercise you do the more weight you will lose.

5) CONSUME POTASSIUM:- Avocados, bananas and apricots are all rich sources of potassium. Potassium can help remove sodium from your body and has been associated with weight loss.

6) CONSUME PROTEIN:- Protein can be found in raw meats, dairy products and even supplements. Research has associated consumption of protein with a temporary fat burning effect and a suppressed appetite, both of which can help you lose weight.

7) SET OUT A PLAN:- Even if you have all the right information, poor planning can mean that you do not take action and ultimately you do not lose weight. Think about how many calories you are going to be consuming each day. Which meals allow you to achieve this? How will you ensure that you drink enough water each day? Where are you going to source your daily protein and potassium? When and where are you going to exercise each day? You need to consider all these factors and then create a plan. Write down how you are going to incorporate all the above into your daily routine and then stick with it.

8) STAY POSITIVE:- Sometimes the right information and a plan are still not enough. If you are following a plan half heartedly you are not likely to lose weight. Negative thinking can be your ultimate downfall. Keep thinking positively about your weight loss plans and you will continue to lose weight. Everytime you start to feel down think of the weight you have already lost and how good you will look once you have reached your target weight.

I hope this article helps you in your weight loss efforts. If you stick with regular exercise, a healthy diet and create a solid weight loss plan you should lose weight. Stay positive, act on the information in this article and you will succeed.

Five Steps to Achieving Your Weight Loss Goals

Sunday, September 20th, 2009
weight loss
Dorianne Schwaiger asked:

Making the decision to lose weight is extremely personal and should be yours alone. No one can make you lose weight. Often external pressures can make matters worse and can sabotage your weight loss goals.

Of course, this does not mean you are in this alone, it just means that before you undertake this task, you should have a definite outline and follow these five steps for a successful diet and weight loss program.

Step 1: Get In The Mind Set For Weight Loss.

Timing is everything when it comes to starting your weight loss program. Take immediate stock of your life. What challenges are you facing right now? Too much stress – whether it be work related or personal relationships can get in the way of successful weight loss goals. It may be a good idea to clear something things up and create a good healthy balance in your life. It take a lot of will power to change old habits, so make sure you have clear focus with your matters at hand.

Step 2: Set Realistic Weight Loss Goals.

Successful weight loss takes time. Try to set small, achievable process goals. Climb the mountain slowly. Perhaps the first week you will resolve to eat a healthier diet by cutting back on your fat and sugar intake, nothing to hard for you to accomplish. Then make a plan to set aside 20 minutes per day, 4 times in the week to do some type of exercise. Do not set outcome goals for yourself. (i.e. I will lose 50 pounds in 3 months.) An outcome goal for proper weight loss is a sure fire way to set yourself up for massive failure. Speak to your closest family and friends about your weight loss goals, most likely they will be happy for you and will be happy to lend support and encouragement.

Once you have your short term goals set, rate yourself on your confidence level for sticking to them, use a scale of 1 -10, with 10 being the most confident. If you fall below the confidence of 7 then try and reset your goals to something more realistic. Ask yourself what makes you eat? Everyone has certain food triggers. Be honest with yourself. List your personal food triggers and try to stay away from them. Some examples of food triggers might be: habit snacking between meals, stress eating, mood eating, etc… Remember, you are making important lifestyle changes for long term weight loss. Your goals are just the first steps in the right direction.

Step 3: Envision Your Weight Loss Success.

Your state of mind and personal image of yourself is everything when it comes to successful long term weight loss. Envision yourself doing healthy, vibrant things like running a 5k race, skiing down a challenging slope, think of yourself in great form fitting clothes, picture your body toned with muscles flexed looking fabulous! This step of achieving your weight loss goals is extremely important. Having a strong mental image goal is something to strive towards and will keep your mindset focused on weight loss and your will power intact.

Step 4: Choosing The Right Weight Loss Diet Plan.

If all the other steps seemed easy to follow then this step might be the most challenging and confusing. The market and media is literally flooded with all types of weight loss and diet books, philosophies and programs. The most important thing to remember is to do your research and choose the weight loss program that is most balanced nutritionally and will fit in most easily with your lifestyle habits. A diet plan that is too hard to follow or that falls into the “Fad Diet” category will shatter your weight loss goals. Until you have mastered the art of correct diet protocol and exercise it is easier to start with a Balanced Nutritional Diet Plan. Often all the thought and hard work at creating meals is done for you. It would be a great idea to look into any of these Diet Plans, they are top in their field and have record results with a majority of people. Chef’s Diet and Diet To Go.

Step 5: Accepting Minor Setbacks.

Anyone who has successfully changed their lives will tell you that life does have setbacks. If you experience any setback, do not give up! Most forward, start fresh! Healthy Weight Loss is a slow, steady and long term process. Now that you have resolved to lose weight, set your Realistic Weight Loss Goals, choose your Diet Plan and ask for the encouragement of family and friends. You are on the high road to your successful weight loss goals!
